regardless of ability, disability, experience, age, weight, or mobility issues. Located in the heart of downtown, local residents will enjoy being able to walk or bike to affordable classes. Bicycles may be safely parked inside the groundfloor warehouse.
Our Philosophy
Aligned with the day to day philosophy of Latitude, an arts and advocacy program for adults with disabilities, GrassRootsYoga asserts that the heart of yoga must be available to all who seek its many benefits. Our program founder, Teresa Harrold Thompson, has a long association with disability clients and is a well respected instructor of vinyasa style yoga, experienced and trained through the Cincinnati Yoga School and nationally certified with Yoga Alliance.
Chair Yoga
If you have difficulty moving from floor to standing positions, you will enjoy and benefit from our chair yoga classes. Chair yoga is a safe option for seniors, as well as individuals with disabilties. As with any yoga class, chair yoga promotes focus, increased core strength, flexibility, balance, and stress relief.
Yoga Basics
Evening classes require each student to have a personal yoga mat. These may be purchased at Walmart, Target, TJ Max, and many other places. The Yoga Basics class is best suited for beginning students. It consists of passive seated stretches, and introductions to standard yoga postures. Yoga Basics students may advance to the mixed level Vinyasa Flow class when they feel ready.
Vinyasa Flow
Vinyasa Flow classes are active -- movement synchronized with the breath.Sudents will be most comfortable with some yoga experience, or be fit enough to explore more strenuous postures and sequences.
