On the Mat: Hatha Vinyasa Style Yoga
GrassRootsYoga classes are inspired by the Vinyasa style of yoga, movement synchronized with the breath. The asanas, or poses, flow with beauty and logic, one to the next, with gentle, informed verbal cues from a professional instructor. New students will enjoy learning traditional Hatha Yoga poses; experienced yogis will explore a practice rich in both challenge and variation.
Classes consist of seated & standing poses, balance postures, sun
salutations, & more. Central to any good yoga practice are 3 primary
elements: an emphasis on the breath to include Pranayama (extension
of the breath); the focus or gaze (drishti); and the pose itself (asana).
Modifications and adjustments are provided as needed.
More than Fitness
Many yoga classes in the West focus solely on the idea of physical
fitness. GrassRootsYoga offers students fitness combined with the
philosophical wisdom of the Yoga Sutras and the eight limbs of yoga
(ashtanga). These are gradually incorporated into classes and
provide students with effective tools for living more peaceful, authentic,
and informed lives. As we become rooted in the richer sources of the
yoga tradition, the practice becomes more than just a physical experience.
GRY Schedule
Tuesday 5:45 - 7:00pm Hatha Vinyasa Flow
Friday 5:30 - 6:30pm Yoga Basics for Stress Relief
Evening classes are dedicated to both beginning and experienced yoga students. Yoga Basics is an excellent class for beginners who want to learn about yoga and reduce the stress of daily life. No previous experience is required. GrassRoots welcomes new students, and we ask that you pre-register using the form provided on this website. We also provide these forms on-site.
The Vinyasa Flow class is better suited for individuals with some prior yoga experience, or a reasonable level of fitness. This class is more active, so we will sweat and challenge ourselves through more difficult yoga sequences.
Please be prompt. New students should arrive 10 minutes early.
See you in class ~ and namaste !
